ForaCare Suisse AG, a Swiss company and Bioexpert SRL, a Romania-based firm recently presented a new medical device called Universal Tone™ that allows visually impaired patients to manage their glucose levels at the 41st National Congress of SRDNBM (Romanian Society of Diabetes, Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases) in Sibiu, Romania.
The companies co-launched the revolutionary Universal Tone technology and presented what they believe to be the latest in professional diabetes measurement. Universal Tone expands the capacity of a Blood Glucose Monitoring System to report test results via beep tones. The result is divided into its respective digits and each one is represented by a specific number of beeps. This function makes it possible for those who are visually impaired to manage their blood glucose results without constantly needing help from others.
According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention collected from 1997 to 2011, the number of adults with diagnosed diabetes who reported visual impairment, including trouble seeing even with their glasses or contact lenses, increased from 2.7 million to 4.0 million.
ForaCare’s FORA Diamond GD50 glucose monitoring device, which is equipped with Universal Tone™ function. The device provides visually impaired diabetes patients with everything needed to read blood glucose testing steps. In addition to the device producing the result through a series of beeps in a row, it also warns the patient about High and Low blood sugar outcomes or errors while testing. The device can repeat the most recent result, as well as the average of the last 7 days’ results in several measuring modes. Universal Tone can be activated and de-activated easily as well.
FORA Diamond GD50 meets recent medical device guidelines and offers the most clinical accurate system performance available.
The Universal Tone is the result of ForaCare’s commitment to addressing the needs of diabetic patients with a focus on accurate, precise and reliable methods.
